O Mar Não Tem Limites is an artistic circuit and environmental project developed within the Blue Flag Programme of Espinho in Portugal. Taking place throughout the city during 2024, the project combines beach clean-up actions, public art installations, and participatory artistic processes, positioning the ocean as a central object for cultural dialogue, civic engagement, and environmental awareness.

Rooted in contemporary environmental challenges, the project addresses the impact of pollution on the oceans, aiming to raise awareness about the growing threats faced by marine ecosystems. By connecting art and environmental action, the project invites the public to actively participate in beach clean-ups, where collected waste becomes raw material for the creation of sculptural works later exhibited in public space.
The project unfolds through four distinct artistic installations, each addressing a specific environmental issue while engaging different audiences:
Sculptural installations created from beach waste, developed through public participation and later exhibited in urban space, transforming discarded materials into visible reminders of human impact on the ocean.
Video installations using sand as a central element, reflecting on the rise in sea levels caused by climate change and its effects on coastal territories.
An installation composed of a colourful fishing net, creating a visual and symbolic dialogue about marine pollution and its impact on fishing environments and marine life.
An interactive installation designed especially for younger audiences, recreating an underwater world filled with fantastical creatures, colours, and textures, stimulating imagination while fostering early environmental awareness.
Together, these works form an artistic circuit across the city of Espinho, encouraging movement, discovery, and reflection within both urban and coastal landscapes.
To enhance the public experience, the interactive guide for “O Mar Não Tem Limites” is available throughout the circuit. Developed within the Blue Flag Programme, the guide includes an exhibition map and exclusive information about each installation, supporting visitors as they move across the four venues.
Using QR Code technology, the guide allows direct interaction with the artworks, offering a more immersive, sensory, and informative experience. By scanning the codes on-site, visitors access contextual content, artistic insights, and environmental reflections connected to each work, transforming the city into an open, connected exhibition space.

Through these artistic actions, O Mar Não Tem Limites seeks to expand public knowledge about the threats facing the oceans, while reinforcing new ways of educating and raising awareness about the importance of the sea and the challenges involved in its preservation.
Rather than presenting definitive answers, the project proposes small, achievable changes, reminding us that each individual can become a leader in protecting the ocean. As the project affirms, it is never too late to change and do what is right.
