Mar de Cores is the third stop of the O Mar Não Tem Limites route, as part of the city-wide artistic circuit. This installation combines art and environmental awareness, displaying a visual reflection on the impact of marine pollution, particularly the infiltration of plastics into fishing environments.

The installation consists of a fifteen-meters long, suspended, brightly colored fishing net, crafted from recycled materials and painted in vibrant hues. This net stretch across the atrium of the Espinho Municipal Museum, allowing visitors to walk beneath the installation.

The work evokes the diversity of plastics and debris that pollute our oceans, creating a visual and sensory portrait of the impact of human activity on marine habitats. The sculptural use of the fishing net highlights both its original utilitarian function and its transformation into an artistic object, inviting reflection on waste, environmental responsibility, and the dialogue between nature and human intervention.

The primary aim of Mar de Cores is to raise public awareness about marine pollution, its effects on marine life, and its influence on traditional fishing communities. Through this installation, the project demonstrates that collective action and awareness can protect marine ecosystems, ensuring a sustainable future for both wildlife and humans.

To create the installation, the following materials are used:

  • Recycled fishing net

  • Colored paints

The fishing net is painted, and manipulated, twisted or torn to create dynamic forms that float in space, while lighting enhances color and texture, creating an immersive environment that encourages visitors to engage visually and emotionally.

The net used in this installation was acquired from a local fisherman whose equipment could no longer be used due to microplastic accumulation, turning discarded objects into a symbolic artistic intervention.
