Oceano Mágico is a large-scale interactive installation that engages young audiences and encourages exploration through playful and sensory experiences. This work is part of Espinho's artistic circuit O Mar Não Tem Limites, blending art, environmental awareness, and community participation.

The installation consists of a labyrinthine path constructed from objects collected from Espinho’s beaches, including sticks, plastic, driftwood, and other recycled items. These elements were painted during workshops involving social institutions and members of the local community, reinforcing the collective and educational nature of the project. This participatory process transforms the installation into a shared creation, shaped by multiple hands and perspectives.

Colored lights enhance the installation, transforming the gallery space into a poetic representation of the underwater world, where dynamic forms, textures, and colors encourage active engagement and exploration, especially among children. The suggested location for this installation is the Espinho Planetarium, creating an immersive space that stimulates curiosity and sensory perception.

The main purpose of Oceano Mágico is to inspire younger generations about the importance of preserving the ocean and coastal environments. Through playful interaction, the installation bridges art and environmental education, fostering dialogue and connection between participants and the marine world.

The installation requires a combination of recycled materials, including:

  • Sticks, sponges, driftwood, fabric, plastic, wood, and metal

  • Colored paints

The objects are first cleaned and painted in ocean-inspired colors, such as blue, turquoise, coral, and green. Materials are then organized in boxes according to their planned position in the gallery.

Once on-site, elements are arranged along the labyrinthine path in a form of suspended islands with LED lights to enhance the immersive experience, creating underwater shadows and reflections across walls and floors, adding depth and magic to the installation.

Visitors are invited to explore, interact, and engage with the space, experiencing a poetic, playful, and educational journey through the underwater world.
