O Mar Não Tem Limites is a video installation, part of the Blue Flag artistic circuit in Espinho. This work combines environmental awareness, artistic intervention, and public reflection, encouraging viewers to consider the effects of climate change on coastal regions.

The installation consists of a physical path made of sand and stones, creating a “trail” marked with human footprints of varying sizes and shoe shapes. This path symbolizes the footprints left on beaches, gradually washed into pedestrian areas by the rising sea.

A television is placed on the floor displaying video content showing the impact of sea-level rise in different parts of the world. The juxtaposition of physical sand and visual media creates a multisensory experience, blending tactile presence with moving imagery, inviting reflection on humanity’s relationship with the sea and the urgency of climate action.

As the work unfolds, the flow of water is presented as an ambiguous object, simultaneously evoking desire and threat, reminding viewers of both the beauty and vulnerability of coastal environments.

This video installation aims to raise awareness about the effects of rising sea levels caused by global warming, highlighting potential consequences for coastal communities. By engaging the public in a poetic and interactive way, the project encourages reflection on the responsibility of society to protect vulnerable ecosystems.

The creation of the video installation requires:

  • Sand and stones collected from the beach

  • 1 television with USB input

  • Adhesive tape

The installation occupies the atrium of the municipal library, allowing visitors to engage directly with the artwork while navigating the public space, making the city itself part of the narrative.
